Your Only Competition is With Yourself

Nobody Can Replicate You

Look, it can be hard not to compare ourselves to others.

We often see extravagant lifestyles on Instagram, people posting about their 50K months on Twitter, or travel vloggers documenting their perfect trip to Bali on YouTube.

We see exotic cars drive past us on the street and strangers flaunt their Gucci and Louis Vuitton accessories like it’s pocket change.

And you just have to stop and ask yourself...

How did they get to where they are today?

Because lets be real, it can sometimes feel like we’re in a constant race with others.

And in a way, society programs that mindset into us from a young age.

You compete with others to get into the best college. You compete with others to get a job at that big tech company. You compete with others to make the most money possible (alright, that’s not completely true but it sure feels like it).

The point is, in this fabricated “race,” there’s always going to be people behind you and people ahead of you.

It may seem like you’re always competing with others. For the attention. For the business. For anything and everything. It may seem like you’re in a constant battle. An endless competition to become the best.

But are you really?

Think about it. There’s always going to be someone who does the same thing as you. Same job, same service, same content, same interests...

But there’s never going to be someone who can do it the same way as you.

Why?

Because you’re one of a kind (cliché but true).

There are 7.8 billion people in the world. And how many of those people can do the same exact thing in the same exact way as you?

None.

You’re the only one who can. Nobody can replicate you.

Your personality. Your character. Your explanations. Your work ethic. Your skills. Your method.

It’s all unique to you and only you.

So why am I telling you all this? Why does it even matter?

Because we often compare ourselves to others. We often feel like we’re in a competition with everyone around us.

But that’s just not true.

Your only competition is with yourself.

Someone may sell the same things as you. But you’re the only one who sells them in the way you do.

Someone may create the same content as you. But you’re the only one who creates content in the way you do.

Someone may have the same exact job as you or offer the same service as you. But you’re the only one who does the job and provides the service in the way you do.

You see what I’m trying to get at, right?

You aren’t competing with others. You’re competing with yourself.

You are your own competition.

So tell me again what’s the point in comparing yourself to everyone else? What’s the point in beating yourself up when you feel more behind than others?

There is none.

We’re all on our own path at our own speed. A path that’s unique to you and only you.

Your only competition is your true, authentic, one-of-one, unique self.

So start living like it.

Never stop dreaming,

Connor
